Spending Your Life

The story goes that a young Chinese was about to be executed, and his last words were: "Some mens spend nice new money, I spends nice new life."

How is your life being spent?

A large corporation where I was once employed (and who shall remain nameless) had a document circulating about which showed the actuarial statistics for retired managers. The average retiree lived less than five years beyond the retirement date.

Imagine putting in twenty, thirty or even more years doing essentially the same thing every day, then taking five years to die.

That's certainly Spending with a capital "S", but it's not investing, and it sure as hel isn't Living with or without a capital "L".

Another life, just spent.

Take some time to think about how you're living today. Are you living, or are you spending?

If you're doing the latter, it's never to late to change, but change you must. I did; and once you "get it" it's actually pretty easy, and a LOT more fun.

Take one small step today and just think over some possible ways to cut back on your "spending"!

Tell me what you think,

Until next time-

Seven Plus or Minus Phooie!

You have Goals. You're told to manage them, and that you can probably only manage 7 plus or minus 3 of them.

Other "experts" say that only four goals should be your maximum.

Nonsense.

Who among these "experts" actually know your limitations?

Further, this arbitrary concept appeared before a lot of tools became available to help you manage, organize and track your goals. And actually be successful in achieving even the boldest of them.

The problem isn't with the number of goals you have, it's with how you integrate them into one cohesive plan.

That plan has two parallel parts: DOing, and Managing.

Think about it. Are you a Doer? A Manager? Both? Or, worst case, neither one?

Tell me what you think,

Until next time-
